Teenage Mutant Ninja Hip Hop

Shredder’s Revenge just hit gaming platforms and brought back the 90’s with it. Continuing the on-again-off-again relationship between Rappers and Turtle Power. This time we’re not talking Vanilla Ice or Juicy J, though.

Classic characters, retro graphics, and a soundtrack that will increase your appetite.  Pizza isn’t the only thing on the menu.  In this throwback title, fans get served piping hot bars by Hip Hop legends, past and present.

In a highly energetic arrangement of mostly electronic music, Raekwon and Ghostface Killah kick up the intensity with “We Aint Came To Lose”, where Raekwon warns you that you can still get it, and Method man reminds everyone that XL pizzas don’t just clean up after themselves.  The boom bap is hittin hard on this track (pun intended) and the hook is pure Hip Hop, scratches and all.

If we’re talking Hip Hop and video games then Mega Ran has to be mentioned, or it isn’t authentic.  A legend in his own right, Raheem Jarbo aka Mega Ran tells the story of the turtles in a half-shell, in what appears to be their new theme song- “It’s a Pizza Party”.  This saucy rendition of the original TMNT banger is sure to leave fans wanting more.

I’m still not sure who asked for a 2D Ninja Turtles game in 2022 or why I convinced myself to pre-order it and write this article, but Rap Music definitely influenced my decision.  For better or worse, the remaking of classic IP is not going anywhere and I’m enabling it.  The best part is, not only do I get to enjoy a heavy dose of nostalgia, but I’m also going to write off Shredder’s Revenge as a work related expense (take that Capitalism).  Also, the soundtrack to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge, is available on all streaming platforms… I’m listening to it right now on Spotify.

Check it out
