Did the Pandemic Change Hip Hop?

Drake just dropped “Honestly, Nevermind”, his very own “African Child”.  The Game, in his latest single “Violence”, now refers to himself as “Geezy”.  Chris brown finally admits that Michael Jackson was (obviously) light years ahead of him.  Hell, I even got a new gig writing for Hip Hop Times- “due to the pandemic”.

Have we humans just spent so much time detached from reality that we created a parallel universe?  Is your favorite rapper even human? (Dark Ominous Tone). However you chalk it up, the game has changed, and I’m not talking about Geezy.  Are we witnessing our beloved MC’s acting out- “due to the pandemic”?

If anything I would say creativity took a gargantuan leap when we all went into lockdown.  While a lot of the population remained virus free, many people did get COVID, and unfortunately, there were loved ones who didn’t make it.  Some of us sat inside with our gold stars and found ways to occupy ourselves, while other’s said “fuck it”- continuing to jet set and party hop.  I’m not here to have a moral debate about science and government mandates, though.  I’m just saying… Shit got weird.

Whatever the case is, something tells me that Drake wasn’t just inside watching YouTube, teaching himself how to crochet.  This fool literally sounds like he’s hooked on uppers, playing Fortnite, on a private jet, headed to a brothel, as we speak… San Andreas braids and all.

Was shit always this bad and I’m just waking up to the fuckery? Or are we all living in an alternate reality, designed by none other than, Bill Gates?  To this day, The Geezy will never be the same.
